This is a photo of Marcel Duchamp playing chess with a nude and infamous Eve Babitz, photographed by Julian Wasser. Duchamp was a coy man and a master of word play and pun (Rrose Sélavy, anyone?). He also loved chess. Besides the obvious humor that is elicited, and the injected sexuality, he has successfully made unspoken commentary about playing chess and how it relates to sex. Both involve mating. Only Duchamp could eloquently sublimate sexuality with something so innocent and ordinary.
